Abstract

Particularly in multicultural cultures where many groups interact within intricate political systems, identity politics has become a major issue in the study of voting behavior. Key theoretical stances, empirical data, and current discussions on how identity shaped by race, ethnicity, religion, language, and culture influences voting behavior, party competitiveness, and democratic results are summarized in this overview. It emphasizes how identity may serve as a cause of political division as well as a mobilizing tool. Future study directions are mentioned in the paper's conclusion.
